My "luck" rebuilding lots of motors since the 70,s has been very good ,
until now. I have been ok with valve seats etc using the shops that seem to
be good . My worst failure was not really my fault , but about the worst you
can have. I plan to write a full story about it for the website and CNYCC
newsletter soon. It is a very long story , but the end result was a crank
gear spinning @20 + degrees. Cause? have you ever seen a converter way out
of balance? To many words involved to type the story (one finger typist)
right now.
The most popular failure happens before I let the motors out of here
..simple.fuel pump leak issues , even when I do the tightening procedure. I
build my motors on a hydraulic table. I run them at least 2 hours or more
before they leave here , and if I am installing them , road test the vehicle @
100 miles or more on a day ride. You have seen some of my work on senior
cars at nationals for several years. I am no longer taking on any large jobs
like that here , I hope to slow down to rebuild small things , like radios
, speedos , carbs , alternators , etc. Sometimes even that kind of work
can generate stress..
My body and mind are getting wore out on some of the major jobs I have
undertaken in the recent past. The biggest part of this work for me is
cleaning and detailing all the parts and hardware.
