This would be a great way to make different thermistors work. The curve may not be spot on, but it will be repeatable.
Another way is to build a 'voltage follower' using an op amp, preferably a CMOS version such as http://www.ti.com/general/docs/lit/getliterature.tsp?genericPartNumber=OPA725&fileType=pdf
Note CMOS op amps can get much closer to the + and - supplies than bipolar amps. Which, for max/min reasons, it's desirable.
this is a voltage follower:
https://www.google.com/search?q=op+amp+voltage+follower&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
Add a pot from the thermistor to switched +12v, and you can then adjust the resistor to get the output you want.

Subject: [fastvair] adapter between sending unit and gauge
here's something cool:
adapt between any sending unit and any gauge.
http://www.technoversions.com/MeterMatchHome.html
(regular meters - not tacho, and prob wouldn't be accurate for the
thermister temp gauges, because this device is linear only)
but still - adapting a gas gauge or oil pressure gauge to a different
sender?
