<VV> serious engine? problem

So why wouldn't a starter always stay engaged when the battery was too weak to turn the engine or the engine was locked up?  Instead that almost never happens. (unless something else is wrong)

Not enough power to turn the engine over anymore, but enough power so the bendex won't pull out.  With the bendex in gauged with the ring gear, the electrical power is still flowing to the starter even if the key is no longer in the start position,
