Has everybody forgotten about the riveted flywheel issues?
The Corvair flywheel is made up of three pieces riveted together. Over time,
those rivets get loose and the flywheel is no longer centered. It will cause
binding of the starter and eventually snap off the starter nose.
Drilling out the rivets and replacing with bolts restores a concentric
flywheel.

Another starter related issue is broken spot welds of the ring gear on the
pressure plate.
