<VV> Windshield Area Drain Holes

Is there a concensus about filling the holes in the corners and totally sealing the trough? Leaving the clips free to clip the trim?

Those holes are not large enough to pass all the leaves, oak tassells, 
maple seeds, pine needles and what not that gets behind the trim here in 
the east. Then it turns to mulch. Then it rusts away. I'm sure the holes 
did pass rain water when new, but then mother nature gets involved! I 
always fill the area full of sealer to keep the crap from getting next 
to the metal.  You must leave a space next to the clips so the molding fits.
