Andy,
Gunk (seems to leave a slight residue),followed by Simple Green (darn clean
after rinsing with water), followed by something like Brake Clean or alcohol
if going to paint. IF baked on varnish-like residue, Easy Off Oven
Cleaner-highly toxic, don't get on machined surfaces or if you do, not for
very long.. Will etch aluminum.. Gets a block nice and clean.... takes
paint off, too...

Guys,
My daily driver 65 has been leaking oil for some time; which I am working to
rectify. Among the other oily/grungy parts is the rear grille.
In the past I have used gasoline as a solvent (I know, it's health and fire
hazardous). Any recommendations for a less hazardous, but still effective
cleaner? I also need to clean some engine internal parts; as well.
Thanks,
Andy K.
