New and better sealants are always emerging on the market daily.  When I would like to try a new product l consult the recommended usage sheet provided with it for the proper instructions for application. Normally the pros and cons are spelled out in them.  I seldom use sealants on valve cover gaskets a oil pans or any other gasket on a Corvair engine.  Most gaskets already have a built in sealant so you don't have to add extra sealing. If a person wants to add sealant let them do it. They may or may not pay for it in the long run.  Jerry Brown
