No one has mentioned that the oilpan and rocker covers need to have their bolt holes flattened. Over time nd repeated tightening, the holes get dimpled.
 Using your creativity, support the front side of the hole so you can get a flat hole when you mash the otherside (engine side) with a hammer

Please don't use Copper Coat or any other silicone sealer. I makes a horrible mess and the stuff doesn't seal well at all on used parts. The worst thing that I've seen happen with the stuff is blocking of oil passages. Not good!Paul Fox

     If your engine is still in the car, i'd replace BOTH the oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets.  Using liberally lots of "RTV" permatex form-a-gasket.  I prefer "Coppercoat".  NOT the copper stuff in a can.  This comes in a tube.  At some point i'd recommend doing a complete "re-seal" of your drive train.  I've found its' a whole bunch easier to pull the drivetrain to do it.  A bunch of jobs "overlap".  This way, you can do all the needed jobs at one sitting as opposed to doing a whole bunch of the same jobs over and over again to finally get to the culprit!  Just my .02 cents worth.
