<VV> winterizing a corvair engine

I know its early..no pun intended... for a 60, to keep mice,rats,chip monks from bringing nuts grass and other debris into the inside of the engine . could you stuff steel wool ,metal window screening into obvious places where they might enter. around the cooling fan,lower air ducts exhaust pipes etc. this car has the gasoline heater so no heater ductwork.  any one have a better way  trey bosson  Wellsville ny
