Getting further off topic, but that would be the first impact with the car
in the upright position. There was a case where the air bag did not
inflate, and it was found the car was upside down without a proper battery
hold down (shorted terminals). No battery power = no air bag squib power.
The rolling of the car over did not trip the air bag sensors, as the force
was not in the correct direction for the air bag to restrain the driver.
Smart computer. Battery falling out of position, dumb maintenance person.
As I quote "It is hard to make things foolproof, as fools are so ingenious".

Remember guys, the airbag (no matter what version or where/how it's
installed) is ONLY good for the FIRST impact!! After that FIRST impact, it
instantly deflates and is no help for LATER impacts. The obvious reason it
was invented is for those drivers/passengers who couldn't be bothered to
waste ALL that time reaching for the belt, putting it across themselves and
clicking it into the socket. When I started by installing seat belts into
my 1958 Plymouth people would ask me if I "raced the car" otherwise why
would I even NEED a seatbelt. And after we bought our first Corvair (a
1965) I installed a child's belt in the back seat for our 3-year old son.
Now any car he drives doesn't BEGIN to move until ALL passengers have their
seat belts buckled.
So airbags do NOT replace seatbelts (unless you're only planning on
being in SINGLE impact crashes).
