<VV> Towing

To confess the answer to my own question:
Many years ago, a friend bought an old Lincoln Zephyr (1930 something version of a Zephyr) that needed towing from where he bought it to where he was going to store it. I was the only person he knew with a trailer hitch on my car, a roughly 4 year old 1964 Monza. He got hold of one of the old style tow bars that clamps to the center of the bumper. When we got to the car, we found it had no front bumper. Initially we thought he was out of luck. Then somebody got the idea of towing it backwards. The new owner got to ride in the Zephyr, which wanted to go in circles. He had to keep a steady pull in the steering wheel to make it behave. As I recall, it would have helped if he’d kept a little more pull on the wheel.

Well, you might never want to. But it can be done and since it's possible, someone may choose to do so.

I thought the point of towing backwards was to put the drive wheels on a tow
dolly. Why would you even try to flat tow backwards?
