Smitty Says ; I have flat towed PGs many times in close proximety of my
home, say within 35 miles at highway speeds without problems. Twice I flat
towed (200 miles and 1000 miles), and overheated the fluid badly. In one
case the tranny got gummed up and failed to shift correctly, but after a
couple of drain and refills in three days of driving it went back to normal.
When I say overheated I mean the fluid was cooked brown. Yes it is true
that the rear pump is running and circulating fluid. The problem is though
that the converter is not spinning and creating a centrifugal blower to cool
the fluid. The fluid just circulating through the pump and valves builds
up heat. You can get away with anything sometimes but you can't always get
away with everything.
