(47) Got into wrenching later in life, and when my son bought our first Corvair 6 yeats ago, i have since inherited it and he and i work on it together. If there were a few more tangible benefits to Corsa membership, maybe it would attract newer/younger membership. There are a couple of young guys, early 20's, that i meet up with pretty regularly as well as help each other out with tips and tricks and general maint. issues.

Our Corvair hobby won't die in the foreseeable future. CORSA, on the other hand, I fear is dying. And I am a great proponent of CORSA and a consistent member since the early '80s. Young people just aren't joiners. CORSA does need some fine tuning to give it the chance to survive for as long as possible but I don't think the newer generations of folks join clubs like the old guys did. Too much free on the internet.

We we able to see the vehicles up close (closer than the casual observer) and I, for one, had a great time. Reconnected with old friends.

Complaints show sincere concern and concern should be listened to so improvements can be made but complaining alone doesn?t solve problems. Participation does.

>> Post classification, we judged over 50 vehicles. It was about 90 deg. F. in the shade of a parking garage. We had the inevitable issues crop up (late arrivals, incomplete paperwork, etc.) but whenever an issue appeared, the Concours managers (Jim Diel and Don Wagner) either individually or in common made decisions. Any Judge was empowered to bring any issue that might affect the quality of the judging to Jim and Don?s attention. The goal was to follow the Rules?but with compassion and fairness. I think we succeeded.
>>

>>
>> It is about 6:00 AM here and some judges will be at the Concours field at 7:00 AM to do unit 6 for the late comers. The Concours will finish at about 4:00 PM. These folks volunteer to judge so that the event survives and CORSA survives. Focusing on fairness would be a nice place to start.
>>

> I am surprised at the number of people who don't understand the judging. A car does not win points, it gets points deducted for less than perfect. Once a car is classified, the judges don't care what the class is. They are looking for dirt, rust, crud, bad paint and any imperfections. The cars all start out at 100 points and go downhill from there. The awards are just as big for modified as factory stock so it doesn't matter what class it is in. Also the car is judged to a 100 point standard. If every car in a class scores 97 points, they all get gold awards. It is a silly system which makes it impossible to know how many awards to order. If 100 cars in concours all score 96-100 points, they all get gold awards and no silver or bronze are given out. So basically there is no 1st, 2nd, 3rd in class!

The only posts I've seen thus far, about 2015, seem to have been complaints about Concours Classification and Judging. I am not able to be there this week, I've attended 21 CORSA Conventions going back to 1977, hope to make it to Springfield next July. Kick back, have some fun this week, life is short...
