Did he put the alternator on it? If so did he use a correct voltage 
regulator and wire it correctly?  IF not and he has a generator, I had it 
happen to me in my 64 van, where the wire got so hot it satarted burning. I 
put it out, changed burnt wire and VR and it was fine.
