I would bet it will be something obviously worn out when you take it apart. I would imagine it is severely worn or broken.

Has anyone had a synchro key get "left behind" and jam the transmission into gear? After running an errand, my 1962 Monza daily driver would not shift out of 3rd gear. The shift lever is locked solid.When I opened the transmission I found one of the 3 synchonizer keys on the 3-4 synchronizer was out of position, as if it did not follow the shift collar on its way to 3rd gear, then when I tried to shift out of 3rd, it jammed, locking the shift collar in position. If anyone has seen this before, do you know what caused it? See attached photo (if it makes it).
