<VV> crankshaft pully

Just bought a rampside that had pushrod seals leaking, a friend and I put the seals in and was going to put the engine on #1 to adjust 6 of the valves, there is no marking on the crankshaft pully.  Looked, felt, and scraped paint there was nothing, called Rick Norris to see if he had ever heard of no markings on the pully he said he had never heard of that, even came over and looked. I know its not a truck engine because you check the oil from the top, but it is a older style engine, with generator. Just wanted to see if anyone else had run into this.
