<VV> Black plate?

Hi all. While at Vandenberg AFB 1973-77 which is on the Pacific coast, I purchased a Greenbriar in 1974. It was not rusted at all. It had black plates, which I still have, I had no Problems with rust at all during my time there. However, when I brought it to SC it started to rust so I had to take measures to prevent it.  I think the Santa Ana winds coming from east over the mountains from the hot valley of Bakersfield  may have helped bring over dry air. Temperature always ranged from 70° to 80° and usually always pleasant there. We were about 40 miles north of Santa Barbara.
