Many thanks to all  who replied. The problem was the dimmer switch, which I
replaced today with a new one from flaps. Was glad to take car on 50 mile
shakedown cruise after sitting on jackstands for the last 3 years.  Oh happy
days are here!!! Again many thanks to all. John Gull in Asheville
