For Sale 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa Coupe, “Darth Vair”
Darth Vair is a mildly customized 1965 Corvair Corsa Coupe. This car was built by Chuck Armer and Ted Fahrenthold in the mid 1990’s. It was restored ground up. Everything that was not welded to the body was removed reconditioned or replaced in the fully reconditioned body. The car sports a detailed under carriage with powder coated suspension pieces and front disk brakes. It received an electric in tank fuel pump, electronic ignition, dual brake master cylinder and all new chassis, steering, clutch and brake components along the way. The power train was initially resealed and dressed in new hardware and fully powder coated sheet metal. The engine and powertrain got reworked in the mid 2000’s. A fresh motor was built using new GM jug assemblies, a performance cam, rebuilt heads, ceramic coated header system, fully rebuilt carbs and distributor. At this time the transmission was rebuilt as well replacing bearings and synchros. The car also got its
current 15” Camaro alloy wheels shod with 205/55R 15 front and 225/50R 15 rear tires. Darth’s exterior sports some tastefully blacked out trim, original Garvin rocker panel extensions and a deep black finish you want to dive into.
Darth’s interior was updated with all new soft goods. The seats were professionally stitched with nice Palomino cloth inserts in vinyl surrounds. The dash was fully reconditioned to include an under dash AM/FM Cassette player. The speedometer was replaced later on due to gear wear (The current 73,727 miles is not correct…the actual mileage since 1996 is likely less than 25,000 and the mileage since powertrain rebuild considerably less but no records exists to verify actual mileages) The stereo system uses a custom rear package deck speaker box and speakers under the seats for updated sound without cutting holes in original style panels. Darth is also lucky enough to have a beautiful factory wood steering wheel installed.
Darth took a first place in his first show (Super Chevy Atlanta 1996) and continued to win firsts, bests and top honors until 2010 when unfortunately Chuck Armer passed away. Chuck used to take Darth to shows around mostly in the southeast and eastern US. Darth was trailered to many events to keep him clean for competition. This car scored Corvair Society concours Seniors status in at least 2001, 2003, 2007 (records are spotty) and is likely one of the top 50 Corvairs in the country. Since 2010 Darth has been lonely sitting in his garage waiting for someone to let him run in the wind and have people once again stare at his splendor. He drives beautifully. Everything functions as it should.
Perhaps you are the one to give this wonderful car the life it deserves.
Asking only $19,000
