Another interesting account of the special Corvair assembly line set up
in 1969 can be found in William DeLorean's book "On a Clear Day You Can
See General Motors".
DeLorean comes across simultaneously as a sh*thead and a realist in his
account of late 60s/early 70s GM management. While Delorean seems too
willing to throw certain things under the bus that he believes were
foisted on him -- good examples being the Corvair and the Vega -- it's
interesting reading.
The background info of DeLorean pulling the final plug on the Corvair is
an important part of the overall Corvair story. You can get cheap used
