<VV> Corvair neon sign

What is unsafe about the old transformers?  I've never had an old florescent light ballast catch on fire but I've has 2 of the newer electronic ballasts burst into flames.  I know they aren't the same but I would assume the technology is similar.

....what Bill said about the safer new transformers.  If you're going to plug in that old neon get a current model transformer to power it.  We upgrade our cars for safety.....
