Yep. I have a pot I use for weird stuff like this, because I use motor oil, and the wife would STRANGLE me if I used the same pot for cooking! I have an oven thermometer I use for this sort of thing. Fortunately, work let me calibrate it. :)

Either way, to find if the system works, he has to heat up the sender. I've done this with similar aircraft systems and heated the sender in oil with a candy thermometer in it to verify temps. Mark Durham Hauser Idaho

I think he's talking about the gauge sender, not the snap switch.

Hi - What is the process of checking the head temp. sensor to see if it's
operational? I did not see a test procedure in the shop manual. This is on a
1966 110 HP Monza. Thanks.

You need a calibrated oven and fixture to do it properly... BUT
If you have a newer digital oven....... attach 2 wires...one to terminal and
clamp the other to the threaded portion..
put Temp switch in center of oven with 2 wires hanging out the closed door.
Turn oven on and with an ohmmeter connected to the two wires..... see what
temp the internal contact closes.... SB 475f -525F depending on model.
NOTE: as they age they trigger at a lower temp.... fail safe!!
