I recently bought a " divorce forces sale " Alfa Spider which sat in a basement garage 14 years with a full tank of gas, never started during that time. I pulled out the tank full of gas, poured into a clear container, removed the sending unit and looked inside. It was red from rust. The gas was tinted brown and the sending unit moved but is coated red. It's like Ken says, the " Octane " rating went down to zero as it won't burn. The fumes are " gas like " but not strong. It's not a very good solvent either. This is a fuel injection car, and the high pressure fuel lines were clear of fuel fortunately. I found a Radiator Shop to clean the tank, but ordered a brand new one for just $169. Those Chinese are making everything, even Alfa gas tanks! I'm replacing the fuel filter, cleaning injectors and fuel pump too.

Irv
65 Corsa, 87 Alfa Spider and a fleet of Kias

Sent from Yahoo Mail
