James, I'm amazed no one has corrected you yet. It's been at least an hour!

That V-6 (started at 198 cu inches then 225 cu inches) was last used in the
1967 Buick lineup and they sold the tooling to Jeep, like you said. Buick
engine plant unbolted the equipment and it was moved to a Jeep plant.

Now for the rest of the story.

Along comes the oil crisis of 1973, and Buick went looking for a small
engine for their cars again. Guess what was available? Yep, the V-6 they
had sold. They bought back the engine rights and all the tooling. The Buick
engine plant blew out the fasteners in the floor and bolted the equipment
right back into place where it sat in 1967. This is the 231 cu. inch (3.8
Liter) engine of the 70s, odd fire style.

They upgraded it to even fire (ever seen that crankshaft?) and then later
added balance shafts and other refinements. This became the famous 3800
engine (still 3.8 liters). This got further refinements and became the
series 1 then series II 3800 engines. The last one was made in August of
2008.

That's 47 years of production!

Buick also had a iron V-6, which they sold to Jeep.  It may also still be
in production.
