<VV> Membership of CORSA

Hi from 'down under' in sunny warm Australia,
I have been reading all of these views and opinions with respect to being or not being a 'member' of CORSA, enjoying the benefits, giving back to CORSA and paying for this privilege.

I am a member of at least 6 car clubs in the USA. A life member of 2 of these 6 clubs and take pride in the fact that I am the founding member of Australia's largest Chevrolet Car Club which I established in the early 1970s.

I don't join a club, any club with a view as what I can personally take from that club. I join a club to provide my support and in doing so to ensure that club survives. If the club survives then it will bring benefits to its membership. If you don't belong to CORSA then I have to question whether you are interested in the general publics awareness and interest in Corvairs, maintaining or improving your Corvairs value and perhaps most importantly educating the next generation who might buy your Corvair one day when for whatever reason you need to sell it.

As an international member living in Australia there is little I can do to support CORSA beyond paying my annual fees. I have written a few articles our magazine, attended 4 annual CORSA conventions and presented at one of them but that's about it. I can't attend local chapter events and it unlikely that I will ever be able to display my restored RHD 1965 Monza convertible at any event.

For my membership, I basically get the magazine and that's it, but I also feel that I am supporting our hobby and CORSA by simply paying my membership fees.

CORSA is in my view above and beyond any individual. Even if I did not agree with a direction CORSA was taking I would continue to maintain my membership.

So if you don't belong to CORSA because you disagreed with some policy, direction or an individual then I would respectfully suggest that you are turning your back on a whole international Corvair community and that you should look beyond that policy or individual and see the importance of CORSA growing rather than retracting.

It's in all of our interests.

Regards to all
Carl Kelsen

> Yinz guys,
> The response and enthusiasm on this subject, whether its a bitch and moan,or positive reaction, really just shows that we ALL do care about this hobby. The past is the past, and that is exactly why we need to move foward. The jist of the matter seems to be the revenue stream to keep Corsa alive and kicking.Instead of dewling on the exclustivity of the "club", we need to be more open to whatever it is.(members,non-members,spectators,bod's)I suggest that with todays focus on the media (especially attractive to the younger crowd) that maybe something like a car donated to "overhalen", "fast and loud" or even "power block tv". With the intent to give it away to a veterns group or some other group that would deal with younger people. The ensuing exposure would be awsume. We need to get the corvair in front of people that know nothing about the car,let alone our group. Another way to increase revune could be to have a car raffle that would extend to the local chapters also.Say a $10,000
> corvair sell 4000 tickets at $5 each,$10,000 profit. Yinz guys with Go- Pro camera's,or race videos, get them on u-tube or whatever. Car shows are great, but how about marketing some corvairs for movies,or promotional work(golf tournaments, beauty pagents, etc) No one really outside of owning or had a corvair knows nothing about them.It isnt like they make them any more.Just thinkin.

> As a CORSA member since the 70's and never been on BOD although I ran 2 times, but my thoughts concerning belonging is that if there wasn't a CORSA or similar organization for Corvair owners the Corvair would be just an old relic no one but a hand full of old die hards cared for. I'm not sure I would have any myself, but since 1962 when I bought my 1st one new I've had at least 20-25 of them and most have passed on to others like myself that enjoy getting together to talk and compare notes. (and get parts for) Probably would not be any major parts suppliers either.

(Dallas) I'm sure there were events that were CORSA only but I guess I wasn't interested. A convention now would be a totally different experience since it would be fun to meet a lot of people from this list. Hopefully next year!
