<VV> PG fluid level theory

Well, it IS a separate issue, but an "at rest" PG Corvair can leave a big
red puddle. This happens when the torque converter leaks down and fills the
pan. In the case where the shift cable covering (housing?) is in poor
condition and the pan fills to near the top, (where the cable attaches) the
fluid will find its way out of the shift cable and onto the floor.

The speed at which the torque converter leaks down is unknown to me and
probably varies from car to car. It potentially could be as quick as a day
or two.

But - two points - the dip stick will show over full if the torque converter
has leaked down, hence at least one of the reasons for running the engine
(and probably driving the car) before/during checking of the dip stick.
Second, if you don't want to clean up the mess be sure that the shift cable
covering has no leaks.

Later, JR
