Well we all know what the definition of an expert is, someone who has risen
to his highest level of incompetence. :):)

I have built all my aviation and corvair engines vertical but always used a
STP/oil mix that would not leak out. You cannot physically put enough load
on a rod bearing to damage it as the psi rating of the shear strength for
the oil is over 70,000 psi, once installed and torqued.
Put your piston/ring assy in the cylinder bores first and install them as
an assembly
