Frank, Water injection is a brand new Snow Performnance unit. It is located in engine compartment. It has a solenoid valve in line and no, I do not have a flowmeter. I did however fill the tank just before the last run and it did use water. I checked after the run and it was pumping and flowing. It is possible that it was not injecting enough. I was in the process of tuning the w/injection when the problem occurred. Will start over when I get a new set of pistons installed. Boost was only 8 to 10 psi when it happened, I suspect the brand of piston and D cutting probably does not help.Going with forged next.Waiting for an opinion as to the safe amount of boost to run with stock 140 compression?I have Safegard and Water injection. Thanks, Jim Cuneo
Jim,
Are you sure that the water FLOW from your water injection system reached the combustion chamber even BEFORE it was needed to forestall detonation?? This can be a problem especially with pumps that are located relatively far from the injection point. That's why I recommend keeping the water line up to the injection point pressurized with water using a "water hammer arrestor" with electric shut-off valves..
The other possibility is that not enough water was injected when it was needed. Do you have a gauge or meter that shows the flow rate of the water as it's being injected?? You could, of course, increase the actual flow of water by simply using a slightly larger nozzle if you can't change the flow control mechanism.
