OK Folks, From the Tech Guide, in the "Rochester 'H' Identification" article
by Larry Claypool, where he addresses this issue.
"Since all 1968 & 1969 models were factory equipped with smog pumps, these
models used the previous California-only carburetors - that is, primary
units that had the air bleed and no power enrichment. A new feature for the
secondaries was a "fixed fuel feed". Essentially, this was a non-adjustable
idle circuit. The new secondaries could now use some of the fuel in their
bowls even if the driver never opened the throttle far enough to use them.
This went a long way in preventing stuck or clogged secondaries that are
typcial of overly "slow" drivers."
Richard, perhaps you can modify yours or exchange them with someone like
Grant Young who does carbs and probably has some of the later secondaries.
Having suggested that, if you are using ethanol fuel, it is going to be
difficult to prevent carbs from gumming up.
