<VV> Early model hood alignment problems.

Hi Everyone.   I am having a hard time trying to align my hood on my ''61 Monza 900.  The driver side hinge will not go low enough to allow the lid to align with the fender, or front windshield grille.   The right side is nice and flush.   As the hinge is "fixed"' and not bolted and adjustable at the body, how can I make the adjustment?  The height on the left side is up to approx 3/16 - 1/4", so way too noticeable for me.  The only thing I can think of is to remove the hood, and "tweak" the left hinge lower with a persuader, but reluctant until I ask the experts for better advise.
