It may have been cancelled, but I know that my 1963 Spyder had them, and that it was an early build car, since it was sold the week of introduction of the 1963, by Balise Chevrolet in Springfield MA. Is it possible that it started life as a 1962 on the assembly line, and wasn't completed when they shut down for the change over for the 1963 model year? What was the date of the start up of production of the 1963 model year cars? I don't believe that if GM had a supply of lower control arms that had the rebound strap links welded onto them, that they would just toss them into the scrap pile.

>In any discussion of R.P.O. 696, the heavy-duty suspension option for '62 and '63, it should be noted that the rebound straps were eliminated for model year 1963. In the Options section of the 1963 assembly manual the rebound strap assembly instructions bear a marking over top which reads; "CANCELED". In the fine print at the bottom of the page is a note dated 8-10-62 that says; "SHEET CANCELLED".
