Im betting thats the oil pressure that is making the light come on.   What weight oil is in the engine?   If its hot and the engine is worn and 10w30 is in there, the pressure at idle can drop below normal.

Suggestions -
Smell oil for gasoline contamination from the failed fuel pump.
If yes, change oil - try 10w40 to see if the light stays off now.

If no gas smell -
Ill get yelled at, but - drop in a can of STP Oil Treatment or similar and see if that stops the problem.

The switch could be going south, but Ive had some vairs that had low pressure at idle, particularly with PG, since it drags the idle down more.

My .02 for the day!

Subject: <VV> overheating issue for new/young Corvair owner

A very young, new Corvair owner who has contacted me on line has a temp light problem that has manifested itself during the stop-and-go portion of a 3+ hour drive to Grand Haven, MI in his '62 Monza with 102 h.p. and PG.  Here's his description:

<When driving at least 15 mph temp light goes off but when at stop light temp light comes on.  It isn't low on oil.  The fuel pump just went out. Could that have anything to do with running hot?>

He says the damper doors are opening fully, and properly.

Any ideas?  Also, is a fuel pump generally available at chain auto parts stores?

I told him I'd post this and forward any response.

Thanks!
