Yep. Very unoriginal approach, and a far less remarkable car. And the Camaro never did catch the Mustnag in sales. Such is result of playing catchup, instead of leading the charge.

I'd say GM redesigned the Chevy II to create the Camaro.  Same cost benefits Ford had basing the Mustang on the Falcon.   And the average American buyer didn't want or understand what we valued.

But the Corvair also caused the Mustang. And Chevy did redesign the Corvair
and renamed it Camaro.
