Jack----I drove them as an inmate Transportation officer for Norfolk, VA
S.D.
They will fly---Made a 100 mile trip from Norfolk to Petersburg in 61
minutes on 4 lane US Hwy (non-interstate). Holds the road like a dream @
120 and higher.
I'd love to have one.
Hank

Question answered previously.
Factory Police Option offered in 1961 and 1962. Dave Newell has original
brochures. No records are available of how many made or used. Also said to
be dealer option.
City police cars in Fifties and Sixties were not primarily used for pursuit.
Corvair promoted "Here's new utility with practical economy" in '61.
In '62 the theme was "Corvairs in police duty meet the requirements where
maneuverability, ease of handling and traction are needed in everyday work".
There are brief listings and photo in book Chevrolet Police Cars 1955-1996
by Edwin J. Sanov, published 1997 by Krause Publications.
My project to replicate a Corvair Police Car for parade fun was abandoned
last year.
I just retired after 14 years my all time favorite cruiser, a 1994
Chevrolet Caprice Classic 9C1 California Highway Patrol car guaranteed by
Chevy to top 140 for one hour, and clocked at 148.

Too many cars
