Michael Cates Writes:
A group of 14 or so buggies, 3 support vehicles & 2 pickups pulling Toy Hauler style trailers left San Diego last Wednesday morning heading for Nags Head, N.C. They were being led by Bruce Meyers in a brand new, just completed, Manx Kickout SS buggy built by Bruce & a bunch of volunteer help. It's equipped with a Subaru engine & a Subaru transaxle with the reverse-rotation ring & pinion & the Club is going to raffle it off next July. Too bad they had a crank seal & a transaxle seal go bad. It was transported back to Valley Center to Manx Central for repair.
Anyway... tonight they stay in Wintston-Salem, N.C. & then tomorrow cruise on into Nags Head.
On the return trip Monday, a few are going to drive back to California & some are having their buggies transported back.
As a side note... one of the Manx buggies is Corvair powered & it has run an electric cooling fan for about 12 years. Mike's original engine was a well used 80hp & awhile back he built a 110hp. No cooling problems & they've been running 60+ mph for 8-10 hours per day.
It sure would be a blast to make a trip like this with a pack of Corvairs!
