<VV> ABS on a Corvair/What is safe anyway?/Stopping Faster orSlower With ABS

A good driver can do about as well as a bad one with ABS, all other things being equal. The only advantage is if you have 4 sensor, 4 channel ABS, where the system can unlock the wheels individually, while the rest are doing their best.

I've heard of people retrofitting ABS onto older cars, but in my opinion, the view isn't worth the climb.

I agree...

Since the advent of ABS, I've always thought about it as - more about
steering than stopping.

While it MIGHT help stopping in a shorter distance on dry pavement, I see it
more as a collision avoidance mechanism on slick roads - giving you the
opportunity to steer around things that are harder than an orange rubber
cone.
