based upon my experience with this problem 30 years ago with a 65
corsa that had never left utah give it up and find some better ones.
the rust that is holding the nut to the rod has also attacked the
threads on the rod. when i got the nut off the area on the rod where
the nut would sit when tightened left a visable depression on the rod
meaning that it would have been very probable that the nut couldn't
have been tightened to the required torque value. back then it was
easy to find another  much better set which i did. utah doesn't have
as much rust as the mid west and east coast but a lot more than
az-mike mann
