If you are doing the water trick , get the motor well warmed up first. Then
make sure you do not put too much in at a time! This works very well on
heads , but not restricted ports. GM CarbonX works fair also.
I use high speed die grinder with different wire wheels for most of my
heavy parts cleaning , including heads..
If the heads are very very dirty , I put them in an oven I have in the shop
and heat them @400 for about half hour. let them cool , air hose will blow
most of the crud off after you dried all the oil out of it , carbon
included. I have a built in oven that was tossed from remodeling job from trash
at appliance store that I put a cord on like my welder. Plugs in when needed
(not often , but it is very handy) This lets me do valve guides without
any damage to the heads also. I can roll it outside if in summer , and parts
are really crummy.
Has anyone ever had success with that Harbor freight powder coating kit? I
hear that you need to buy better powder color than theirs? I hope to set
mine up soon , bought it years ago and never opened it.
Regards, Tim Colson
