<VV> Disc Brakes on American Cars?

I too remember the 15" and 16" wheels from my early days, but disk brakes  
were around back then too.  I'm guessing you are correct that the smaller  
wheel sizes from the "long and low" styling period made the adaptation and  
modification of disk brake technology for automotive use more desirable.
