<VV> Gas Tank Install question II

Rich, The old saying "there is nothing to it but to do it" applies here. Your gas tank install is no harder than anyone else's. This is 1 job you just have to be a man about it and stop complaining. If it's too hard, then just pay someone as Cliff suggested. One thing I have done is to lube the hoses real well with petroleum jelly, lube the filler neck and body seal, have the clamps real loose, get it most of the way up there, and then tighten the (new) clamps using a long 1/4 inch socket/extension/ratchet. Finally after your hoses are tight finish tightening the tank hold down strap making sure each nut has the same amount of threads showing. Be careful with the small overflow pipe on the tank. I have seen that small pipe break off the tank by putting too much strain on it. This is assuming you have the stabilizer bar removed for access. And tell us what have you done. Are both your hoses and all 4 clamps new? Are you reusing your filler neck body seal? Have you cleaned all the old undercoating/road grime from the filler pipe where it goes thru the seal (I like to use a wire wheel and buff this area)?

That made it quite easy to feed the neck up where it belongs ( I used a broom handle in the neck to help guide it to the hole). Once the tank was basically up and in position, I let it drop down a few inches and was able to get my pudgy hands and fingers up to put the neck hose onto the tank and tighten the one clamp (the others were snugged before installation).
