IIRC new fuel pumps come (used to?) with instructions to tighten the screws down around the perimeter of the top.  If you did not do that, see if that fixes the problem.

Should have mentioned its a brand new fuel pump. I'll check the oil and yes I'm sure it just started today. Drove to the convention and back with no odors.
