<VV> K&N dirt/air vs oil filters

My point was that dirt is always getting past the air filter and since it is, the question becomes how large a particle is ok?  There has to be a point where the particles are so small that they don't hurt anything.  Is that size reasonable to filter down to?  Once the particles are below that size does the quantity matter? (up to the max quantity that could get past the air filter).

More to the point - are the particles the K&N passes below the damage threshold?  (seems unlikely)
