<VV> Tire Advice

I have a 2009 GMC 2 wheel drive 1500 series pickup truck.  Currently, it has P245/79R17 M&S tires by General.  They wore out much sooner than I thought they should.   Anybody have any suggestions about replacements?  Thanks in advance.
Corvair content---I use thsi truck to pull the car trailer with either the track car or the Corsa convnert.
