That's not correct.  Operating the tire at maximum *load* is analogous to a rope at full tension.  Tire flex creates heat, so running the tire at the maximum pressure actually reduces the stress on the tire.
Now, running the fronts on a Corvair at full pressure is a bad idea assuming equal size tires, but Bill's post said to use the max pressure at the rear, not the front.
