Actually what people call a "one wire alternator" is usually a GM late 
style like a 10SI or 12SI, that does have two terminals, so you can hook 
up the idiot light on the dash.

I would not use just one wire and not notice I threw a belt until the 
temperature light came on. Valve seats would be in danger by then!
