Yup, apparently Matt is the only one that has actually seen one of these 
VW manifolds -- the flow was NOT bi-directional, if anyone actually 
cares -- and they did plug up regularly, sometimes permanently -- most 
Bug headers just ignored the manifold crossover anyway.  Didn't some of 
the later bugs use an electrically heated plenum?
