Smitty Says; Having had a couple of neglected Corvairs over the years I
have experienced oil being pumped up dipsticks and crankcase pressure leaks.
The first on I did the legit mechanic way and pulled the shroud to get the
lower gooseneck pipe out of the block cover. It only took one time doing
that to realize what a heck of a lot of work it is for a small job. Next
time I got 10 inches of steel cable and "rats nested" one end of it.
Chucked the other end up in a reverse running drill and fed the rats nest
end down through the pipe into the block cover. Then fed the cable through
the upper breather pipe. Done in about 5 minutes. Yes I probably pushed
some crud onto the windage tray. If any of that got into the pan I figured
that's what filters are for. If your upper pipe is one of those with an
orifice in a hose nipple, make sure you clear that out too. If you don't
like this idea, please tell your friends and neighbors. This is just an
alternative to setting the breather pipe on fire.
