<VV> gas gauge sending unit

Question:  I have 3 gas gauge sending units in my parts stash.  Off the vehicle, 
how does one tell which ones are early and which ones are late? (No, they are 
not '60's)

 61-4's are 0-30 ohm,   65-9  are 0-90 ohm
