Hi again car can be parked on any angle, always on the driver side. New
rings, pistons, valves and seals. valve seats both inttake and exaust have
been swapped. Pulled the plugs and none show more burning than another.
Had a high volume oil pump then swapped it out for th old oil pump. Seams
to burn less oil ( Lots of smoke idle, seams like very little when
aclerating). Engine has to warm up slightly for clouds of white smoke to show up (
maybe 2 - 3 minutes). How about oil return blockage??????
A few thoughts
First - You installed dual exhaust on this 110, (not stock), so that is
how you know it is the left side (AKA drivers side) smoking (as viewed from
the rear of the car). Right? When you pulled the plugs, did you do a
complete compression test? If all 6 are close, try a cylinder leakdown test. Oil
in the chamber - needed for exhaust smoke - must come from somewhere. There
are only a few paths into the chamber, Intake port, intake valve guides or
past the rings. Did you install the umbrella-type valve seals? - The kind
that snap over the top of the guides. Usually used only on intakes.
Do you have an electronic ignition on the car (No, that can't cause
smoking!) IF you do not have electronic ignition, while the car is sitting there
idling - and smoking - try (CAREFULLY) removing one plug wire at a time
from the left side, causing a cylinder to miss. If/when the smoking stops, or
reduces a bunch, that cylinder may be the culprit. If all three smoke, no
matter what, keep on searching. Please do not remove a plug wire from a plug
while running if you have electronic ignition, that can kill the ignition
system.
Make sure the PCV system is correctly installed and no oil is being fed
into a carb base or air cleaner side. This is a messy idea, but if you are
afraid of oil return issues, you can try running the car without valve covers
or just "half-covers" in place. In order to flood the rocker chamber with
enough oil to hit the valve guides, you have to have a lot up there, since
the valves are near the top! This is especially unlikely at idle.
Good luck - I guess you can ignore my other idea - Never let it idle, full
throttle all the time! - Seth Emerson
