<VV> Powerglide service

Guys,
I am helping out another Corvair guy.  He was told by lclc that his torque converter was bad and needed changing.  We have pulled the engine & transaxle for the needed service; and the ATF is pretty cruddy (dark gray; but not burnt smelling).
I suggested he pull the pan to change out the fluid.  Is there anything else we should consider doing on it?
